Here’s a few landscape tips to get you started.

Weed Barrier

Weed barriers are essential for keeping your landscape spaces looking clean and bright. A weed barrier can be as simple as a few inches of mulch—two to four inches. Mulches such as shredded bark should keep a good percentage of those pesky weeds at bay. When you use mulch as a barrier some weeds will still sprout through, and you will have to occasionally pluck a few—remember to pluck weeds all the way to the root. Mulches also decompose organically, which is good for the soil, however because they decompose quickly they will have to be topped off seasonally. A weed barrier can also be purchased, and as long as the barrier fabric has drainage (don’t use plastic garbage bags!) it should work well to both prevent weeds and keep a healthy transmission of water through soil.

Flowers and Plants

Before you purchase flowers and plants, have a good idea as to the exact location where you plan to plant: know how often the sun shines on the planting locations. Plants and flowers thrive in different conditions: some plants like full sun and others like partial shade. If you place a plant that thrives in shade in full sun, and vice versa, then it’s likely those plants won’t thrive.

Watering

Different species of plants have different needs. If you plan to water your plants using a garden hose, then make sure to also use some type of spray nozzle; a spray nozzle can be set to emit a customizable flow of water. Watering cans and drip irrigation systems are also good choices to keep plants watered and healthy.
